Cross Country Trip #2: Day 2

Date: 8/29/2019

Miles: 250

Today was another great day. We left early from Clarion, PA and grabbed some food at a local restaurant called Country Seat. We had a delicious breakfast and then made our way west and headed south on 66 south.

There were beautiful rolling hills filled with corn fields shortly after leaving Clarion. We then saw a sign for “Scenic Overlook” where we decided to stop. Luckily we did. There was an amazing view of the Allegheny River. It was almost as if we were at Horseshoe Bend in Page Arizona. The photos don’t do justice.

From there we traveled west along 165 into Ohio. There were no “welcome to Ohio” signs except the street which we crossed called “State Line.” We kept heading west through Springfield and stopped at Hoppin’ Frog Brewery for lunch. This place happens to be rated top 100 in the world for the last 12 consecutive years. The beer and food were excellent.

It was a great little break. The weather was amazing and we traveled through a bunch of state roads and passed tons of corn fields. At one point we were at an intersection and a horse and buggy trotter by. That was different. Luckily I was able to snap a quick photo with the GoPro. We continued to ride down state route 162 until we hit Marion.

Gabe found a spot where there was a little bike event going on. We stopped and had a some drinks and some cheese and bacon covered fries. They even had live music. It was a good place to stop before deciding where we should end for the day.

Finally, we ended up at a Quality Inn. Tomorrow we plan on making it to Paxton, Illinois where my cousin recently purchased a house. It should take us about six hours of ride time to get there.
